How Online Tutors Spark Innovations In Students?

Do you remember the era when we were in schools, traditionally taking education, using books, by-hearting the tables, and going through a very structured education system? Before Corona also, though not much was changed in the pattern of school situations, the digital era had started and was having its presence in one or the other way in our lives. As the internet opened up many opportunities and the world became a “Global Village”, the pattern of online education started. The need for physical presence in the class reduced and the distance between tutor-student disappeared due to online learning opportunities. This brought the opportunity to get connected with the countrywide expertise in particular skills.

The concept “Tutor” emerged in this phase and the education pattern started to change.

Nowadays, when one starts the search for a tutor, what will he/she expect from the tutor? The knowledge can be gained from the books, whereas the skills can be improved by proper and innovative thinking, and today “learning the skills” is not just a hobby but a tool to improve developmental and physical health.

It is proved that teachers are the single best driver for the student to perform the best in the class. The tutor plays the same role.

  1. The tutor should be skilled enough to make the student think. It leads the student towards a more and more innovative approach. He encourages critical thinking and helps to explore his / her ideas.
  2. The tutor is the one, who doesn’t teach the topic or skill but helps the students to learn it by himself/herself. Tutors do not provide ready-made answers to the student. He encourages them to search, study, and find ways to reach the answers.
  3. When the tutor makes the student think critically, it leads to the spark of innovations in the students. How? Critical thinking brings forward the different patterns and ways to solve the problems. When one can get more than one way to solve the problem, there remains the choice for the best to select.
  4. The passionate tutor does more than required enough for his work. He uses the present situations and study materials rather than following the same old methods and patterns for making the students learn. Tutoring goes for the assignments relevant to real-life which helps students to connect with the studies of the skills for practice and avoids irrelevant old dated references.
  5. The tutor encourages the students to raise the queries. He provokes them to ask questions and doubts. Open-ended questions always help communication to go positively. At the same time, the projects assigned are also open-ended projects, in which the tutor allows the student to express their knowledge in their way rather than to follow the typical traditional structured ways.
  6. Identifying the strength of the learner is part and partial of the tutor's work as he is not going to teach the school curriculum. The tutor thus helps to pursue a student his / her interests and skills and provides a space to improve. The tutor encourages them to explore new learning ways.
  7. Making them share the things or lessons the student had learned, found, and achieved, is the tutor’s responsibility.
  8. The tutor follows the reward system, which not necessarily is based on marks or grades, but maybe giving a chance to make the choices for the subjects or topics to be discussed in upcoming classes, etc.
  9. It doesn’t matter what a tutor is teaching. Bringing out a student’s creativity is the responsibility of the tutor. For this, the tutor uses various tools like small mind games and puzzles.
  10. The tutor doesn’t stop anybody’s thinking, whatever it may be. Instead, he finds out the crux of it and channelizes it in the proper way which helps to flow the thought process.
  11. The tutor encourages students to communicate in a way they feel comfortable. It may be by making them speak in their mother tongue, allowing them to share their views on a particular subject or topic. Also, he suggests the students write down new ideas and think about the practicality of those ideas.
  12. The tutor does not focus on the failures. Instead, he helps the struggling student to come out of the hard situations by making him think about the learnings he had from the so-called failures, by nurturing his hidden skills and capabilities. With all such innovation-based tutors, we bring out the best within you.
